Mexico IVF and Surrogacy - A valid option

Mexico IVF and Surrogacy is a valid option for US couples.

I have been looking into the cost of IVF and Surrogacy Worldwide. There are two websites that have some breakdowns available. They are ivfcost.net and at ivf cost worldwide.

The real value depends on what your needs are and what part of the world you live in. Travel expenses such as Hotels and airfare really add up fast.

From the USA, Mexico IVF appears to be a value price leader. The full fees for IVF and ICSI are only $4,000. Medication are in the $1,500 - $2,500 range. And there are round trip flights from almost all major US cities for around $300 round trip per person.

Many of the doctors are trained in the US and many clinics will let you bring your USA surrogate down to Mexico to transfer. With a surrogate from the US you only need to leave the country once for the transfer. The baby would be born in a US hospital with your normal doctor.

You can get the full treatment (IVF, ICSI, Meds, and Surrogate) start to finish for $20,000 - $30,000 and you only need to visit Mexico once. This is really a valid option that many people should explore.

Surrogacy gives a woman a chance to experience motherhood, when she is unable give birth by natural means. But surrogate mothers in the U.S. cost anywhere between $50,000 to $100,000. Moreover, surrogacy is ridden with many legal hassles in the U.S. The entire surrogacy process in India costs anywhere between $20,000 to $35,000 and includes doctors fees, medicines, pre-natal care, delivery, legal charges as well as surrogate compensation. It's just one-fourth the cost of surrogacy in U.S. Visit here to read more http://asiasmedicaltourism.com/category_story_1455.html

I clicked on both the links and nothing about IVF in canada. just in case you are interested, at the clinic I just joined
1. IVF cycle - $5,500
2. GS Cycle fee - $2500
2. GS testing $2500

Meds - don't really know because we have a partial plan that covers 80% and so does our GC - from what I remember it was around 1500 - so that's only 20% of the cost.
This clinic is more expensive then most of them, but they specialize in surrogacy/egg donation and sperm donation.

Mexico sounds like a good option
Carol,

Thanks for the comment. It is a VERY large misconception that surrogates cost $50,000 - $100,000 in the US. Can you honestly introduce me to any surrogate that made $100,000?

Statements like these can be damaging to new Intended Parents that do not fully understand their options.

It is possible to do IVF and Surrogacy without going to India for less then $35,000.

There are many US Surrogates available for $13,000 to $18,000.

Any Intended parent interested in going to India should contact Rhonda and Gerry. They have gone there as Intended Parents and have a ton of information they are willing to share. Their Blog is:

Duck,

As an American citizen going to Canada would there be any restrictions on using a clinic? Is this a private practice or part of the National Health care system?

Basically, can a US couple walk into a clinic with a US or Canadian surrogate?

What is the name of your clinic and web address?
Cyn,

I come and go a little bit. Late summer was my slow time so I could post a lot. As we flow through basketball season I get locked in a gym or spend all my time talking and writing about basketball.

I am sure this would bore you.

As we move later into the summer I will be able to entertain you more with my posts.

Great Post.....

I found your site on stumbleupon and read a few of your other posts. Keep up the good work. I just added your RSS feed to my Google News Reader. Looking forward to reading more from you down the road!

Thanks for sharing....
We looked hard at India as an option for us for surrogacy, but when we looked at the cost of travel and the DNA test for the baby, Mexico was a much more affordable option.

That is a good question!

Unfortunately, the laws of Mexico do not support surrogacy. The woman giving birth regardless of her lack of genetic connection is automatically considered the legal mother. The parents would have to attempt an international adoption which from Mexico would be a big hurdle and lengthy process from a country that values family above all else and children are their heart. The Government has concerns of what they see as their people being exploited and once it is known it was really surrogacy do they make an example and deny the adoption? This is a very Catholic country where ART is on the edge but Surrogacy is over the edge.

Bottom line is there are no protections to the parents in taking their baby home any more than they would have in a planned adoption where the "mother" can change her mind at any time.

Due to the lack of protection for the intended parents most/many IVF Clinic in Mexico will not even transfer into a surrogate from the US. Culturally it is a big leap even though they know birth will take place in the US where the laws protect the baby and parents.

We often work with American Citizens of Hispanic origin that work and live in the US. It is far safer to have them travel to Mexico for IVF than to *hope* a surrogate comes into the US to deliver. Past the IVF treatment the surrogate should not be out of the US while pregnant.
Anonymous,

It would be a complicated process.

I will write a longer post about this soon, but here is a brief answer.

Most of the clinic's in Mexico will not do surrogacy at all because of the lack of laws in Mexico protecting the intended parents.

We worked with a clinic that would do surrogacy for us do to the fact that we are giving birth in the USA were the laws protect us.

You would need a couple that was willing to do surrogacy with no legal protections and a clinic that was willing to do the procedure.

You do talk about giving birth in the US so that might move things in your favor some.

I would need to know some more details about your situation to give you a complete answer.
